DietPower Sports New "WaterMinder"

Popular weight-loss software now watches liquid intake

DANBURY, Conn. (April 25, 2002)—DietPower, Inc., makers of the leading weight-loss and nutrition software for personal computers, have released a new version that alerts users when they aren't drinking enough water.

"Liquids are crucial to weight loss and athletic performance," said DietPower founder and CEO Terry Dunkle, "yet only three in ten Americans get the standard eight glasses of water per day." His company's new software includes a WaterMinder™ that alerts users when liquid intake falls behind their calorie expenditures.

DietPower, invented in 1988 and marketed since 1992, is the only nutrition software that can guarantee reaching a goal weight on a target date. It does so by monitoring the user's metabolic rate (the number of calories required for weight maintenance) and adjusting daily calorie budgets accordingly.

The program has earned perfect scores from Shape magazine and ZDNet, and was declared "the ultimate in weight-loss and nutrition software" by Runner's World. It also helped Dean Workman, a 29-year-old overweight rock musician in Los Angeles, win the first Discovery Health Body Challenge. Other success stories are at www.dietpower.com/how_it_works/success_stories.php.

Besides the WaterMinder™, other new features in DietPower 3.0 include:

  • A larger Food Dictionary. The company has added 2500 fast-food and other chain-restaurant items to its nutrient dictionary, expanding it to 11,000 foods described in 21,000 entries.
  • The Body Log, which lets you record and graph not only your weight but any of 36 other variables—including as many as three custom variables that you set up yourself.
  • The Menstrual Log (an option in the Body Log for women under 60), which adjusts your calorie budget for water retention during certain days of your cycle.
  • The News/Update button, which takes you to a page on DietPower's Web site containing the latest nutrition and fitness news.
  • An expanded, updated Help system, covering more topics in greater detail and incorporating more recent findings in nutrition research, as well as new dietary allowances for some nutrients.

A free 15-day trial of the the latest version of DietPower is available on a CD-ROM or by downloading from www.dietpower.com, where users can also order a $49.99 "unlock code" that makes the program work permanently. For further information, visit www.dietpower.com/who_we_are/contact_us.php.
